Dali Now Connected by High-Speed Rail to the Rest of China

September 11, 2018

“Everyone knows that I am a big fan of China’s railway system. I have spent over 200 nights on trains, covering over a half million miles. Thirty-five years ago I would never have imagined that the 70 hours it took to go from Beijing to Kunming would be covered in less than 10 in stunning, air-conditioned compartments. Yet, even Dali, the once isolated Bai kingdom, is now connected by high-speed train to the rest of China. One can now reach the Linden Centre by high-speed rail from almost any major Chinese city in less than one day of travel.” Shot 2018-09-11 at 3.53.45 PM“My favorite train is D939 from Beijing to Kunming. It consists of new compartments of soft sleepers. It leaves in the early evening and arrives in Kunming the next morning for an easy transfer to the two-hour high-speed connection to Dali. There are now over 30 trains plying the scenic Kunming to Dali route. All tickets on said trains can be reserved online and picked up at any station before your departure- a far cry from the old system that meant waiting in tenuous lines for hours in the hope of accessing even an arduous hard seat.”  china-bullet-train-990x555“The Linden Centre’s team can help all guests plan your train travel, even suggesting some midway stops to explore while winding through rural China. There is no better way to see China than through the comfortable conditions of these trains. Most trains have cafe cars and extremely clean Western bathroom facilities. Delays are rare. There is no longer any excuse to not try China’s spectacular rail system. I hope to see you all on a train heading somewhere in the near future.”  — Brian Linden
